Solid Natural Hardwood Flooring

Solid hardwood flooring is elegant, durable and gorgeous. It is commonly available in strips 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 inches wide or planks 4 to 8 inches wide and available unfinished or prefinished. Natural hardwood floors are glued or nailed and best installed by a professional.

Advantages:
  • Very elegant and beautiful
  • Very comfortable under foot
  • Extremely long-lasting
  • Can be sanded and refinished over and over for many decades
  • There are dozens of species of trees to choose from, each with it’s own look and character. The most popular species are Oak, Maple, Walnut, Hickory, Bamboo and Cork
Disadvantages:
  • Susceptible to temperature, moisture and humidity and can warp, swell,  be discolored or stained
  • Surface can be scratched somewhat more easily than engineered hardwoods.
Best Uses:
  • Living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, bedrooms and other dry areas not susceptible to excess moisture, water or dampness.
Uses to Avoid:
  • Kitchens, Bathrooms, Mud Rooms, Basements
  • High moisture areas, areas that can get wet often
  • Areas with extreme temperature variations, extreme sunlight conditions
